The former Porticor support site is now frozen. Please refer to our Intuit page.

S3 Client Support Notes

Our goal is to provide complete and transparent support of S3, with full coverage of all S3 clients out there, as well as clientless use cases of S3. Unfortunately there are some Porticor product limitations and some issues with individual clients, and these are documented below.

The notes below refer to two configuration options. The hostname option means adding the Porticor appliance into the local hosts file. Alternatively, the endpoint option is client-specific configuration of the S3 endpoint, so that it points to the appliance rather than directly to Amazon S3. These options are further clarified in the main S3 knowledge base article.

s3cmd on Linux

Most functionality of s3cmd is supported. Exceptions are listed below:

  • The mb (make bucket) command is not supported in endpoint configuration.

Configuration options: hostname and endpoint. See this article for configuration instructions.

awscli

Supported, as of v2.61.
Use aws cli version 1.7.12 and higher, as some earlier versions handled endpoint configuration wrongly.
Configuration options: hostname and endpoint.

Cloudberry Explorer

Configuration options: hostname and endpoint. The endpoint option requires that the bucket-specific endpoint should be used for configuration.

S3 Browser

Configuration options: hostname and endpoint. See this article for configuration instructions and screen shots.

3hub

Supported, as of v2.34.

Configuration options: hostname only.

S3Fox Organizer

Configuration options: hostname only.

TntDrive

Supported, as of v2.34.
TntDrive (since version 3.5.1) has an Advanced Configuration feature that caches files and folders. Using this option can improve performance in cases where all reading and writing to the bucket is done solely via TntDrive.
Configuration options: hostname and endpoint.

S3FS

Supported, with some issues around directory creation/rename. See https://code.google.com/p/s3fs/issues/detail?id=218.

Configuration options: hostname only.

S3QL

Supported.

Configuration options: endpoint and hostname. See this article for configuration instructions.
